How to choose the right chandelier

Choosing the right lighting for your room is often a challenge. On the one hand, we have to choose a lamp that we like and that fits into the decor. On the other hand, the number of light points must be chosen so that there is neither too much nor too little light. While too much light can be reduced by using, for example, a dimmer or a light bulb with less power, a chandelier with too few arms can be a problem that can only be solved by replacing it with a larger one.

Crystal lighting, including chandeliers and plafonds, has been an indispensable element of furnishing luxurious interiors of palaces, castles, churches or libraries for centuries. For years, crystal lamps have been increasingly common in wedding halls, restaurants, cafés, hotel lobbies and everywhere where the owners are focused on elegance. The fashion for crystal lighting has also entered into houses, apartments and flats, furnished both with style and in modern way.

The design of crystal lamps has changed over the centuries. In the Elite Bohemia catalogue you will find lamps that will perfectly fit into the decor of a classic interior, as well as a modern one, where a chandelier or crystal plafond will complement modern shapes.

What chandelier should be chosen for the living room, dining room or bedroom?

When facing the choice of a lamp, remember to choose its size (number of bulbs and diameter) according to the height and area of the room it will illuminate. In a living room of 20-25 square meters we should hang a chandelier with not less than six bulbs and a diameter of at least 60-65 cm. In the same room, the chandelier or plafond that will be hanging above the table may already have a larger diameter (65 - 75 cm) and the light points may even be 10 - 12. We always like to eat in well-lit rooms.

In chandeliers with 10-12 and more light bulbs electrical installation shall be divided into at least two power circuits, so that in a 12-arm lamp we can light 6 or 12 bulbs at once. A dimmer will be a perfect complement, giving us the possibility to control the brightness of the lighting. It will be useful not only during romantic dinners, but also in everyday life when we want to relax by looking at the colourful light flashes created by the light falling on the crystals. What they feature is that depending on the amount of light, they shine and shine into a completely different ways.

What chandelier should be chosen for a large living room or dining room?

In a large living room, with an area of 40-50 square meters and a height of about 3 meters, the minimum chandelier diameter is 75-85 cm and at least 12 light bulbs or more. In case the lamp will be hanging above the dining table, we can choose 16 bulbs and a diameter of up to 90 cm. We can hang the chandelier above the table at a height of 170-180 cm.
